Event Details

When the world’s largest and most expensive science experiment – CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC) – was switched on in September, rumours were rife that the world was about to end. Well no sign of that so far, but what HAS happened is that a window has opened on a new age of physics and a whole new world of discoveries.

If the experts are right, this exciting machine will essentially unlock some of the secrets of the universe, tackling some of the really big questions like ‘what is the universe made of?’ and ‘why do we exist?’

We might glimpse particles that have not have been around since the very beginnings of time, find dark matter or demonstrate the practical existence of extra dimensions.  Either way, it should tell us some really basic but important things about the early universe, the way in which the universe is constructed and how nature really works on a fundamental scale.

Join us on a voyage through the curious worlds of black holes, supersymmetry, super strings and multiverses, dark matter and dark energy. Not to mention the elusive ‘God particle’. All those weird and wonderful things you hear about but have little or no idea what they actually are!
